Yesterday, Afrobeat act, Davido was in a meeting with the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Mr. Frank Mba, to help table the concerns of Nigerian youths to the authorities.
The meeting was held at the Police headquarters in Abuja and Davido was there present with members of his team, his lawyer and some entertainment personalities like D’Banj, Ubi Franklin, Korede Bello and a few others.
At the start of the meeting, the musician had his Instagram Live on, and in the course of the live broadcast, it appeared as though Mr. Mba was purporting to say that he [Davido] was leading the charge of the protest in the capital, Abuja the day before. This Davido denied, stating that he didn’t lead the protest, but that he only joined the protestors and also tried to calm tempers when things were about to get out of hand. The rest of the conversation could not be heard as the police instructed that the meeting goes off Instagram live.
A lot of people on hearing the short conversation were of the view that the musician was denying being a part of the protest, and as is characteristic of the streets of Twitter, the musician was “dragged” and lampooned. This has forced Davido to issue a statement to clarify the situation.
In his statement, he stated emphatically that he never denied being a part of the protest, he however clarifies that he explained to the police PRO that he wasn’t a leader, because the ENDSARS protest in itself has no leader.
