A Muslim influencer and reformist Imam is steering a campaign against the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari. The social media campaign which is hash tagged #ArrestBuhari is centred on urging social media users to lend their voice to help see to the arrest of the Nigerian President. The Australia-based Muslim cleric is largely running this campaign via Twitter.
A number of social media users have taken this campaign up as it is currently a trending topic and hash tag. These people tend to side with the Australian Imam in the notion that the Nigerian President is putting the lives of the citizens in danger.
The Muslim influencer and reformist with the name Mohammad Tawhidi, famously known as Imam of Peace, is leading a social media campaign which is solely aimed at the arrest of President Muhammadu Buhari. The social media campaign is inspired by an upsurge in insecurity in the country and the government’s verdict to free “repentant” Boko Haram terrorists.
It is no news that the Nigerian military had brought 601 ex-Boko Haram terrorists into the society to live freely instead of convicting them of criminal offences. The freed ex-Boko Haram terrorists comprise of 14 foreign nationals including some from Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
This update was declared by the Coordinator, Operation Safe Corridor, Major General Bamidele Shafa on Saturday. The ex-Boko Haram terrorists were released and freed of all charges at the De-Radicalization, Rehabilitation and Re-integration (DRR) Camp in Mallam Sidi, Gombe State.
This move by the government to free ex-terrorists rather than punish them has been seen as a threat to the well-being and safety of Nigerian citizens. Due to that, the update did not sit well with Nigerians, and in response to the development, the Muslim influencer, Imam of Peace tweeted, “Buhari should be arrested, dragged into police van over insecurity
“Nigerians are rejecting the re-integration of Boko Haram militants into society. They’re asking for them to be taken to the Government House since the President freed them. #ArrestBuhari.”
“Raise your voices against freeing thousands of Boko Haram terrorists. #ArrestBuhari.”
Several Nigerians on Twitter have since then joined this campaign to call for the arrest of the President Buhari as they reject the decision of the government to re-integrate Boko Haram militants into the society.
