Ivory Coast Unveils New Stadium for AFCON 2023

Ivory Coast has unveiled a new stadium it would be availing the continent as it gears up to host the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2023.

On Saturday, October 3, 2020, the West African nation inaugurated its 60,000-seater Olympic Stadium for the 2023 AFCON.

The new edifice at Embimpe, on the outskirts of Abidjan, it set to be the largest stadium in the country – surpassing the Houphouët-Boigny stadium.

The stadium is reported to have cost up to €218m in its construction – this is according to Ivorian authorities, with counterpart funding from China. The construction took almost four years to complete by Beijing Construction Engineering Group, a Chinese firm.

It Embimpe stadium is being slated to host the opening match and the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
