Ibrahim Mahama Sues Chairman Wontumi

Business mogul and brother of former President John Mahama, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, is reported to have sued the Ashanti Regional Chairman of Ghana’s ruling political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi Bosiako aka Chairman Wontumi for defamation of character.

Mr. Mahama who is the CEO of Engineers and Planners (EP), is seeking a relief of 5 Million Ghana Cedis from the courts against Chairman Wontumi after the later had made statements saying that he had acquired his wealth from unlawful means.

Chairman Wontumi had made statements insinuating that Mr. Ibrahim Mahama had amassed wealth during the times when his brother John Mahama was Vice President and then eventually the substantive President of the Republic of Ghana.

In the writ filed, Mr. Mahama quoted Mr. Antwi Bosiako as he spoke on Wontumi TV, saying;

“He has bought a car, it is said he has bought a car for Hajia for Real. Then he has bought a house and given it to her in addition, then he has snatched Kenpong’s girl. Because the money that [he has], it was when we just came into power, that his brother went and stole money for him. Do you understand?”

Mr. Mahama says he is seeking an apology and retraction within seven days of judgement. Additionally, he is seeking 5 Million Cedis as penalty for the defamation of his character.

Ibrahim’s suit further adds that the comments by Chairman Wontumi were obvious lies and all a deliberate attempt to dent his image.
