Raymon Abbass aka Hushpuppi who is currently facing wire fraud charges in the United States, has decided to settle for a government lawyer, dumping his top and expensive lawyer in the person of Gal Pissetzky.
This comes in the wake of the case being was transferred to another district.
The 37 year old Hushpuppi who was a resident of Dubai before his arrest is known for his ostentatious lifestyle. He usually flaunts his materials wealth and has high taste for extravagant lifestyle which he constantly posts on social media.
He was arrested last month in his Dubai apartment with charges of money laundering and was then extradited to the U.S on the 3rd of July.
one of the main charges of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against Mr Abbas is that he is was part of a network that made “hundreds of millions of dollars” from business email compromise frauds and other scams.
Premium Times which previously reported that Mr Abbas had hired Gal Pissetzky, a top lawyer in the U.S now says that the former Instagram celebrity has now opted for a cheaper government assigned attorney instead.
Mr Pissetzky who is renowned for handling criminal cases in Chicago, had argued that his client sourced his money from promoting designer products on social media and a real estate investment, despite the US government claiming that Hushpuppi funded his flamboyant lifestyle from monies he stole through wire fraud and other internet scams.
It should be noted a Chicago court, on Monday, denied Hushpuppi bail and ruled that he remains in detention till his next trial date later in the year.
Abbas’s case has now been transferred to the Central District of California for prosecution to fully commence.
The detention hearing on Monday saw the American government attorney orally renew a motion for removal in custody and this oral motion wish was granted.
“Accordingly, Defendant is ordered removed to the Central District of California in the custody of the U.S. Marshal forthwith. As provided by 18 U.S.C. § 3142(f), Defendant is remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal and shall remain in custody until further order of the Court,” Justice Gilbert ruled.
Transfer documents signed by Thomas G. Bruton, the Clerk of the U.S Court in Chicago, indicated that Mr Abbas was moved on Tuesday, according to Premium Times.

Moreover, in the commitment letter sent to California, Mr Abbas refused to retain Mr Pissetzky as his attorney. Rather, he requested that a court-appointed counsel be assigned to him.”
If convicted, Hushpuppi might be looking at a minimum sentence of 20 years in the U.S. federal prison.
