Ghana: Independent Fomena MP Officially Declares To Join NPP Caucus In Parliament

The Independent Member of Parliament(MP) for the Fomena Constituency, Andrew Asiamah Amoako has officially written to the speaker of Parliament. Mr. Alban Bagbin on his decision to do business with the NPP caucus in parliament.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker, the Fomena MP said: “I shall, for purposes of transacting business associate with the NPP caucus in the Eighth Parliament”.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I do hereby affirm that I shall cooperate and collaborate with the NPP caucus in the Eighth Parliament”, the letter dated January 13 read.

It is expected that the latest development will bring to finality the debate on who holds the majority and minority in the House between the NDC and NPP.

The 2020 parliamentary election saw both the NDC and NPP winning 137 seats each.

Mr. Asiamah, who won the bid in 2016 to represent the people of Fomena on the ticket of the NPP, lost the 2020 NPP primaries to Philip Ofori-Asante.

He defied the party to contest as an independent candidate but emerged victorious despite sustained campaigns by the party against him.
