Don Jazzy has urged Nigerians to show support to Nigerian celebrities than their foreign colleagues on social media.
Jazzy made this known in the part two of his interview on Bounce Radio with Ebuka. Don Jazzy said it is un-patriotic when Nigerians follow foreign celebrities instead of the local ones.
The music producer stated that it feels embarrassing seeing Nigerians supporting foreign stars like Kim Kardashian, more than the local ones. He also lamented on how some people see pride in themselves after choosing foreign celebrities over their local ones.
“I feel some type of way when I’m going through a Nigerian page and I see that we are not suporting our celebrities. When I see that you’re not following a Tiwa Savage, Chima Amanda, Genevieve, Olamide, Wizkid, or Davido but you’re following Kim Kardashian, Lori Harvey I feel like you’re not patriotic, ” the record label boss said.
“Some will be like I don’t follow Nigerian celebrities with pride sef. This following of a thing no be say we dey pay for am o. I just feel like we can support more. Buy Nigeria grow the Naira. With the numbers we have, we can be having some interesting conversations globally if we get all the support we can get. I’m just saying sha. I come in peace,” he added.
He then revealed that he follows Nigerian celebrities even though he doesn’t get followed back. He said he follows these Nigerian celebrities to show support for Nigeria and to show that he is proud of what these celebrities have achieved in the country.
“I’m following Burna, Genevieve, Bangalee and they are not following back too. Nobody dies. But as a proud Nigerian, I’m just doing it to show I’m proud of what they have achieved for the country. Plus to support in my little way.” he said.
He also revealed that himself and his co-founder of Mo’Hitz days, D’banj, have gotten together many times to make new music, but they have never actually been able to get a song that they think that their fans would love.
