Buhari Suspends Babalakin as UNILAG Pro-Chancellor, Sacks Acting VC

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday suspended Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of University of Lagos (UNILAG), Dr Wale Babalakin, SAN and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, over the lingering crisis.

The President who is the Visitor to the University has accordingly created a Special Visitation Panel (SVP) to look into the burgeoning crisis in UNILAG.

A statement released by the Director Press and Public Relations for the Nigerian Ministry of Education, Mr Ben Bem Goong, said both Babalakin and Ogundipe are to relieved of their position and suspended from performing their functions during the period of the Visitation.

The Panel is expected to submit a report within a fortnight. Meanwhile the University’s senate has also been directed to hold an emergency session to see to it that an Acting Vice-Chancellor is appointed so that the administration of the university is not stalled..

With this decision, the President has sacked the Acting Vice-Chancellor purportedly appointed by the Babalakin-led Council.
